Everyone’s favorite little German scientist/boy genius is back, at least for one seven minute episode. Posted by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on YouTube, the video already has over 500 thousand hits. Not bad considering it was just published yesterday.
I miss this show. Being in my mid-twenties, the mention of Dexter’s Lab brings with it fond memories of my childhood, sitting in front of a box shaped television set with a black cable box sitting just below it in a separate compartment of the entertainment center made of real wood. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ikea and whatever they make their furniture out of. I especially love that it costs twenty dollars and comes in red, white, or brownish black. But I digress, back to Dexter’s Lab.
The premise is the classic Dexter plot: Dexter is working in his secret lab, and Dee Dee sneaks in and not even ten seconds later, what Dexter was working on blows up in his face. . . literally. Here’s a funny little twist in the story, though, Dexter has built a “rude removal” machine for his sister so that she will stop bothering him. Of course things don’t go as Dexter plans, but instead both he and Dee Dee are caught in the machine, which goes off (of course). Dee Dee and Dexter come out with polite and terrible British accents, and I found Dexter’s fake German doing a fake British accent quite entertaining.
But wait, there’s more! It turns out all the rudeness that has been removed from Dexter’s and Dee Dee’s bodies have actually created evil twins for them! Complete with rude East Coast accents! Yes, that’s right! Dexter’s fake German accent doing a fake New York accent! That’s not even the best part! The messy haired and scowling doppleganger talk like Jerry Springer guests. That’s (bleep)-ing right! Trouble ensues when rude Dexter and Dee Dee go upstairs and eat lunch, being total (bleep)-holes to their yellow gloved Martha Stewart type Mom. I don’t want to spoil the whole (bleep)-ing episode, so watch it yourself! Let me know what you think of the episode.
Hopefully this will set a precedent of releasing new episodes from 90s cartoons. I want at least one more battle against Him by the Powerpuff Girls. I want to see Doug and that green sweater vest learn one more life lesson. I want to Dial M for Monkey one last time! I want Helga G. Pataki to write one more love poem for Football Head. I want to see Pinky and the Brain try and take over the world!
