The Marvel Universe now has another mixed-martial arts fighter appearing in their Phase II universe. Superherohype.com reports that UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been cast in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as French kickboxing master Georges Batroc, AKA Batroc the Leaper.
The character of Batroc first appeared back in 1966’s “Tales of Suspense” #75 and has often been featured as a villain to Captain America. While he lacks superhuman abilities, he still puts up quite the fight when tangling with his super-hero adversaries. Pro-wrestler and fellow mixed martial artist, Dave Batista, had also been cast as Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
Georges St-Pierre, a French Canadian hailing from Quebec, previously has appeared in the movies Death Warrior and Never Surrender.
Captain America: Winter Soldier has a tentative release date of April 4, 2014 and will return Chris Evans in the title role.
