Freddie Highmore to Star as Norman Bates in AMC's 'Bates Motel'

TV Guide has reported that English actor, Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), has been cast as Norman Bates for AMC’s new Psycho prequel, Bates Motel. Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) will be playing Norman’s mother, Norma Louise Bates, and has been described by executive producer Carlton Cuse as “very hot.”  Yum.

Bates Motel will be set years before the infamous events of Alfred Hitchcock’s film Psycho. The film’s infamous shower scene pushed the boundaries of violence and sexuality for its time, becoming one of the most culturally influential films in history.

The new Bates Motel will explore Norman’s early life with his mother and what ultimately drove him to become a murderer. AMC has already agreed to a 10 episode season, plus a pilot. The series is expected to premier October, 2013.
