Have you been happy with Google Maps? Does it offer everything you want? If your answer is no, you might like this news. Rumors have it that Google Maps may be receiving a significant update to its user interface.
Supposedly, the left hand side bar will soon be gone. In its place will be clickable menus along the top portion of the maps. Allegedly, this will benefit mobile as well as PC users. The primary interface of the left side bar has always focused on navigational components and location specific searches.
The leaked images seem to show that the update has to do with showing more real estate on the map screen. Other features said to be added will be the ability to search for local attractions based on reviews or recommendations from Google+ friends, visually enhanced icons, and easier to read text.
We do not know when or if this update will happen, but Google has its I/O conference on May 15 through the 17. Hopefully then we will find out more.
