James Cameron is undeniably one of the most influential filmmakers of all time, so when he drops a compliment, it's worth paying attention. Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity looks absolutely phenomenal, and according to James Cameron, that early impression is completely on the mark. According to Cameron, Gravity has the "best space photography ever done," and is maybe event the "best space film ever done." That's some high praise!
Cameron gave his opinion in a Variety profile on the upcoming film:
I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time. What is interesting is the human dimension. Alfonso and Sandra working together to create an absolutely seamless portrayal of a woman fighting for her life in zero gravity.
Cameron is not one to throw around idle compliments, so a comment like this is a pretty big deal. We'll see for ourselves though when Gravity hits theaters on October 4, 2013.
