Nintendo Loses Battle for WiiU.com

Nintendo has suffered a big loss.  They had previously filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization to acquire the domain name WiiU.com, which was registered on January 13 2004 before the Wii U even existed.

On June 19, the WIPO denied Nintendo’s complaint.  No reason has been given for the denial and at this time, WiiU.com is just a placeholder page redirecting visitors to various other links.  Some of these links are related to the Wii U and some are not.

The result of Nintendo’s case would lead some to wonder if Microsoft will see the same results.  They have also filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum over the domain name XboxOne.com that was registered by a UK resident before the Xbox One existed.

Nintendo’s only option, at this time, is to attend an auction and pay for the site.  Nintendo has not yet released a statement concerning this situation.
