Spike TV Announces Nominees for the 2012 Video Game Awards

The gaming industry sadly doesn't really have an Oscars equivalent. Unless you count a BAFTA, Spike TV's annual Video Game Awards are about as close as we've got. Considering Samuel L. Jackson is hosting though, I think I'm okay with that. Read on for this year's nominations.

Unlike their other awards shows, Spike's VGA nominations are chosen by a select panel rather than by audience voting, lending it some amount of credibility. Members of the voting council include journalists from outlets such as Entertainment Weekly, Game Informer, Joystiq, Kotaku, Polygon, IGN, GameTrailers, Gamespot, Wired.com, USA Today and Associated Press.

"VGA Ten" will air on Friday, December 7 on Spike TV at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT, as well as on MTV2, MTV Tr3s, and live streams on Xbox LIVE, Spike.com and GameTrailers.com.

In addition to the awards, the show will include trailer premieres for The Last Of Us, Gears Of War: Judgment, and South Park: The Stick of Truth, as well as musical performances from Linkin Park and Tenacious D.
